Across the border into New South Wales about 3 and a half hours drive from Brisbane, is Tenterfield – the gateway to the New England and Northern Rivers regions. The main industries of Tenterfield and surrounds are beef cattle breeding and super fine merino wool production.
Tenterfield has some beautiful historic buildings housing shops, cafes and restaurants along the main street, and there are wineries, scenic walks & tours, and fishing spots to be explored in the region. National parks such as Boonoo Boonoo Falls are popular with families and have picnic facilities and are just a 20 minute drive from Tenterfield. Only a 25min drive on a sealed road is Bald Rock National Park – which features the largest granite monolith in the southern hemisphere.
The ever popular Oracles of the Bush is a four day event encompassing live performance of Australian Bush poetry, music and art, and is held each April.
